I have had some responses to the posting in which I encouraged business owners to grab their accounting bull by the horns. Great! I am encouraged!! You can’t ignore all the demands a business makes on you, but you can prioritize. Decide which areas you can tackle and which areas you need to surround yourself with others who have complimentary skills. Bookkeeping/Accounting usually tend to fall to the bottom of the list of skills for the small business owner. As entrepreneurs, we are really good at producing our product or service, but usually can’t boast that bookkeeping is a strength. That’s okay… you just have to be able to assess your strengths and weaknesses realistically, and be willing to seek assistance in the areas that you need someone to stand in the gap. It is always best to find someone to partner with you in the areas of your weakness sooner rather than later. Most of our regrets in life are based on what we did NOT do versus what we did do.
